Overview
Politecnico di Milano School of Management's mission is to contribute to the collective good through a critical understanding of the opportunities offered by Innovation.
The School of Management (SoM, https://www.som.polimi.it/en/) was established formally in 2003 and groups together POLIMI GSOM (our graduate School of Management founded in 1979) and DIG (the Department of Management Engineering - Dipartimento di Ingegneria Gestionale established in 1990), bringing together all research and education operations in the field of management, an area of major importance at PoliMI, with our MSc in Management Engineering being taught since 1982. Since 2003, SoM has been a single body consisting of two tightly interconnected entities, one of which being an autonomous private legal entity, established with the precise purpose of satisfying the need for flexibility that otherwise would not have been possible within the context of an Italian state university. The two entities are: DIG: A Department within PoliMI employing tenured professors, research fellows and contract researchers. It concentrates within a single unit all research work in Management Engineering and the related BSc, MSc and PhD courses. POLIMI Graduate School of Management (MIP Politecnico di Milano): A not-for-profit private company in the legal form of a consortium company with share capital. Shares are owned by Politecnico (around 30%), Assolombarda (the main association of industrial and service companies operating in the Milan area) and 22 large Italian and multinational companies. POLIMI GSOM covers most of post-graduate education, with MBAs, Specialising Masters, EMBAs, executive open education, corporate education and programmes for the public administration sector. This organisation is coherent with the strategy of Politecnico di Milano, and means that it is possible to retain the rigour and quality required to award degrees from Politecnico while, at the same time, having the necessary flexibility for managing post-experience courses.
