Overview
Mission: To enrich our students by providing a flourishing learning environment and integrating Chinese and Western management wisdom, grounded in integrity, innovation and social responsibility. Vision: To develop principled and talented leaders-becoming China's Whampoa Military Academy in business. Values: Inscribed by our founder Dr. Sun Yat-sen on November 11, 1924, our University’s official day of establishment, SYSBS core values are “博学, 审问, 慎思, 明辨, 笃行.” These values were skillfully written in a rhyme so that it can be easily remembered by one and all. We explicate these values below: “博学” (Study Broadly) – The first two words of the rhyme mean to study broadly. With globalization, SYSBS recognizes the necessity of integrating Chinese and Western wisdom to propel academic excellence. “审问” (Enquire Solicitously) – The next two words of the rhyme mean to be inquisitive. With technological innovations and hypercompetition, new theories, methodologies, strategies, and practices are emerging even more quickly. Hence, it is important for our various stakeholders of SYSBS, particularly our students, to realize that knowledge is not static – that they must be proactively inquiring. “慎思” (Think Critically) – These next two words of the rhyme refer to inspired deliberation. The vision of SYSBS is based on the belief that creativity and clarity result from the inspiration of deliberation and critical thinking. “明辨” (Discern Judiciously) – These two words of the rhyme remind the SYSBS community of the importance of discernment. This part of the vision stresses that all SYSBS members should make sound judgments in their undertakings, with emphasis on social responsibility and on ethics in all aspects of research and study. “笃行” (Act Prudently) – The final two words allow the rhyme and our stakeholders to come full circle, by putting all knowledge, inquiry, deliberation, and discernment into fruitful action.
