Overview

Our mission is to develop persons of character, capable of leading in today's global economy. Inspired by our Vincentian values and utilizing the teacher-scholar model, we create an engaging learning environment dedicated to equipping our students with innovative problem-solving skills that emphasize analytical, inclusive, ethical, socially and environmentally conscious decision-making. To accomplish our mission, we: • Emphasize excellence in teaching that incorporates innovative approaches to develop the knowledge and skills students need for their professional and personal success. • Pursue excellence in scholarship that advances knowledge and informs our teaching. • Inspire students to become effective, caring leaders by emphasizing good stewardship and sustainable business practices. • Leverage numerous applied and experiential learning opportunities that transcend the classroom, to deepen students’ understanding of the complex business environment. • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that engages our students as partners in learning.

The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University provides unique opportunities for students to obtain an education that is experiential, entrepreneurial, and global. In addition to its 2,200 undergraduate business majors, Tobin’s 700 graduate students are enrolled in one of nine M.S. programs or the FLEX M.B.A. Introduced in 2021, this M.B.A. program maximizes flexibility and experiential learning by allowing students to study online, onsite, or in a 14-week hybrid curriculum, all with a focus on case studies and real-world projects. In addition, Tobin offers a STEM M.B.A. and an Accounting M.B.A., as well as several other M.B.A. concentrations.

Within the Tobin College are the Center for Enterprise Risk Management, the Applied Finance Institute, and the Global Business Stewardship Center, as well as the acclaimed Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science, which is recognized as a Global Center of Insurance Excellence by the International Insurance Society and as a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries. Students also benefit from experiential learning opportunities, such an Executive-in-Residence Program, a Student-Managed Investment Fund, and a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Students can also avail themselves of Academic Service-Learning opportunities, such as our Global Microloan Program, our Thomas J. Cox, Jr. Honors Program, and several Global Destination Courses that are offered each year at sites including Dublin, London, Paris, Rome and Zurich. In recent years, Tobin has achieved many prominent rankings, including being ranked #8 for our B.S. program in Risk Management and Insurance by U.S. News and World Report, #34 for our online M.B.A. program by Fortune, and #54 for our undergraduate business program by Poets&Quants.
