The UCT GSB’s mission is to “contribute to the success of individuals and organisations through research-informed teaching, practice and thought leadership that creatively responds to the complex and pressing economic and social challenges of our world today”.
The preeminent business school in sub-Saharan Africa, the UCT GSB is a distinctly African business school embedded within Africa’s leading University. The School aims to lead an increase in Africa’s contribution to, and influence within, management education by serving as a bridge across the African continent and between Africa and the rest of the world in ways that promote sustainable impact and drive positive social change. The School seeks to contribute generalisable insights to established global debates among management scholars, as well as to develop and disseminate scholarly and practice-led insights into business and the business environment in South Africa and the African continent to scholars and practitioners in Africa and the rest of the world. The School is distinctive in its combination of social innovation and values-based leadership, as well as in its understanding of complex environments. It is committed to expanding the impact of this work through high-quality scholarship, influential applied research, innovative teaching, and relevant thought leadership. The UCT GSB aims to understand the needs of students, firms and executive education delegates in Africa and elsewhere to produce graduates and future leaders who will seek to make positive contributions to society in ways that are informed by the values of rigorous inquiry and engaged citizenship. The School’s programme portfolio reflects its pillars of strength in research as well as its commitment to social change, economic development, and ethics, responsibility and sustainability.
